National Voices’ Health Inequalities Unconference
- Health inequalities
- Lived experience
- Communication and administration
About the event
We know that too often groups of people experiencing inequality and the voluntary sector organisations that work with them are not sufficiently listened to or prioritised in conversations about how health and care is designed or delivered. We want to turn that on its head in this event – using an unconference approach to centre the voices of those experiencing health inequalities.
An ‘unconference’ is a participant-driven meeting where the meeting format and topics covered are designed in a bottom-up rather than hierarchical way, with lots of space for peer-to-peer learning, collaboration and creativity.
There will be lots of different ways and formats in which to engage on the day, including:
- Fishbowl conversations – where five chairs are arranged in an inner circle (the fishbowl) and remaining chairs are arranged in circles around the fishbowl. Any member of the audience can take an empty chair at the centre of the fishbowl and speak.
- PechaKuchas – a storytelling format in which a presenter shows 20 slides for 20 seconds of commentary each, with slides automatically advancing so all presentations are no longer than 7 minutes. This will be followed by opportunity for discussion in groups with the speakers.
Our hope is that as a result of the event, National Voices’ members and partners will be able to make progress on addressing health inequalities in their work through the constructive conversations, connections fostered and learning on the day.
