Great Manchester- Social Prescribing Network Event

A social prescribing workshop for the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector in Manchester.

Social prescribing, as described by the NHS and others, involves linking people with health and care problems into practical and emotional support and activities that matter to them, in communities and with the voluntary and community sector. The NHS England Personalised Care Group has commissioned National Voices to gather the insight and experiences of the VCSE sector on social prescribing. This event is run in partnership between GMCVO and National Voices, the national membership body for charities working in health and care

This workshop is aimed at representatives from GM based charities, social enterprises or other community-based organisations involved or looking to be involved in social prescribing. This could be in a role that connects people with health problems to activities and sources of support, a provider of activities or support for people, or as an infrastructure organisation building and supporting community activity and connection.

The main purpose of this event is to engage the VCSE sector within the region in the discussion on social prescribing. We are interested to hear about the experiences and perspectives of VCSE organisations on how social prescribing can fulfil its potential and improve the lives of people with health problems by better meeting their practical, social and emotional needs alongside their medical ones.

The findings of this and other regional workshops will inform a larger scale national consultation on priorities and actions for social prescribing. There will also be an update on social prescribing in Greater Manchester and the opportunity to network. A draft event programme will be published in due course. Lunch will be provided.
