Leading charity alliances call on the government to put funding back into communities.

Together with other leading alliances of charities and the Local Government Association, we are calling on the government to put funding back into communities.

  • Health inequalities

The vital fabric of civil society that supports people’s health and wellbeing is withering and, especially in poorer communities, resembles a wheel with the rubber worn away. Today (8 July 2019) we have published a letter in the Guardian, signed by leading charity alliances and National Voices members, calling on the government to put funding back into communities and rebuild the social fabric that supports people to thrive.

We have also jointly written a comment piece with the Local Government Association, published in the HSJ today, on the importance of communities and social support to wellbeing – and the need for the new Prime Minister to prioritise it accordingly. We believe that the long trailed Prevention Green Paper could be an opportunity to address the factors that shape people’s health and wellbeing, such as the environment we live in, the communities we are a part of, and the inequalities that affect people and places.
